How do you redeem a disappointing pizza? Use the leftover pizza dough to make a decadent dessert pizza. Yes I am afraid last night's experiments with my coconut bacon on pizza weren't as good as they could have been.
Unfortunately I only had enough tomato pizza sauce for Sylvia's pizza so I blended some rocket and walnut to make a pesto for the base of our pizza. I topped it with marinated artichokes, cherry tomato, coconut bacon (that hadn't been fried) and cheese. The pesto was too bitter. Fortunately it left me with hope that if I used a sweeter sauce the coconut bacon might make an excellent pizza topping.
I didn't have much dough leftover but it was enough to spread some nutella on the base and scatter with chocolate melts and raspberries (baked at 190 for 20-25 minutes). This was so rich that a little went a long way and this pizza was still around at breakfast time the next morning. It was oh oh so good!

Dessert pizzas covered in nutella make just about every recipe fail better. This looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteI nearly didn't come by. The thought of fake bacon and chocolate on one pizza was almost to much to bear in my delicate state after partying last night. I am mightily relieved to see it is actually two seperate pizza. *phew*
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to make a dessert pizza Johanna! I can remember the last time I had one-it was delicious and I should try and make one at home!
ReplyDeleteLove the look of that dessert pizza, inspired idea. Hope the facon works out better next time with a different sauce.
ReplyDeleteTeehee, the Melts! At least you got some use out of them :P And you've made me crave artichokes :P
ReplyDeleteThat picture...I am most impressed that Hannah (above) is craving artichokes as I am taking from this post a very strong craving for chocolate raspberry pizza! This looks absolutely amazing.
ReplyDeleteYou are so brave, with the dessert pizza.. I don't know if I could get past the mental block :P
ReplyDeleteThanks Joanne - agree completely
ReplyDeleteThanks Jacqueline - glad it wasn't as bad as you feared - I have slightly changed the title of the post to try and show it is not one pizza with facon and chocolate (though I could well imagine a smoky salty chocolate might work!)
Thanks Lorraine - yes try one at home - they are a great way to treat the last scrap of pizza dough and very easy (I usually do cream cheese instead of nutella but didn't have any)
Thanks C - I think even a basil pesto might work better with the facon - hope to experiment a bit more
Thanks Hannah - it seemed fate that I had a few melts left for the pizza - I am not sure what to do with the rest of my jar of artichokes now - any ideas welcome
Thanks Kari - I too am more likely to crave chocolate raspberry pizza than artichokes :-) highly recommend it
Thanks Matthew - no not at all brave - you just need to remember that chocolate and bread isn't that odd (think pain au chocolat or brioche with choc chips) - it is really worth getting over your mental block
Too bad the savoury pizza didn't work out - it looks really good!
ReplyDeleteConsidering how much I love dessert, it's shocking that I've never made dessert pizza (though I HAVE made tagine, which I now remember--thanks!). The savory one actually looks great--sorry it was a disappointment. I am dying to try that coconut bacon!
ReplyDeleteThe dessert pizza is such a great idea! :)
