I love this post as a keen tea towel collector myself! I mainly have animal motifs on mine. Thank you for sharing your great collection!
ReplyDeleteThanks Veg Hog - I have a few animal tea towels but most of ours are souvenir ones
DeleteI love this SO much- I love tea towels but don't have much of a collection yet. I hang mine as curtains in the kitchen (with cafe clips).
ReplyDeleteThe Scottish one is my favorite. Keep Yer Heid- now that's a good mantra :)
Thanks Nupur - I once gave my dad tea towels upon returning from some travels and he hung them on the wall in his study - using them as kitchen curtains sounds like a great way to enjoy the pretty ones
Deleteaww so cool, i used to make curtains out of teatowels for my kitchen in Australia
ReplyDeleteThanks Cate - tea towel curtains would make the kitchen feel cosy and homely
DeleteGosh, that is a good collection! My Mum has about 20 tea towels with different designs relating to Rye in East Sussex :P She could take inspiration from your varied assortment!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kari - wow I love the specialised nature of your mum's tea towel collection :-)
Deletebeautiful! I love the thistle towel. Isn't it funny, growing up us youngsters were all EWWW TEA TOWEL PRESENTS BORRRRRING and now I appreciate them! I have some of my grandmother's old towels, though after reading about your tea towels I'm inspired to get my nice towels out and start a collection. I have a few vintage linen towels and hand embroidered but if I hang the 'good towels' on the oven for decoration I just know someone with dirty greasy fingers will use them to mop up blueberry juice or something awfully staining!
ReplyDeleteThanks Faye - I was like that about tea towels but now I appreciate them so much more. I do have a few that are out of sight but most just get used - E's mum was so into her tea towels and used them all and told me that she had a beatles tea towel that just wore out - part of me was sad not to see it and part of me thought it was nice she enjoyed it. Your vintage ones sound like something I might be scared to put out but they sound like great blog props
DeleteMy teatowels are rather boring in comparison to your Johanna!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lorraine - you should check out some of the tea towels on your travels (though I have learnt that not every country sells souvenir tea towels because I had to buy one for my mother in law's collection on my travels and sometimes it was very difficult to find any)
DeleteI love the Downton Abbey tea towel and the Willow tearooms tea towel. I have also been to the Willow tea rooms and I have a tin with that design on it that used to contain tea.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cakelaw - I actually insisted that E bought the Downton Abbey DVD with the tea towel. I went to the willow tea rooms years ago and was very impressed - would love to get back there as I love rennie macintosh's designs
DeleteWow - what a beautiful and completely unique collection! My tea towels are so boring ;p
ReplyDeleteWonderful post -- I also checked your prior tea-towel posts. Your collection looks great. I never thought of taking photos and making a post: great idea!
ReplyDeleteMy English friend sends me tea towels almost every year. When I see them at a tourist site, I send her one as well. I use them all the time and so of course my favorites are wearing out, just like your mum.

Thanks Mae - I had thought that perhaps tea towels weren't so big in the USA so I was surprised to find a San Fransisco one in my mother in law's collection - I suspect we bought it for her when we were in San Fran about 15 years ago but am not sure
