Street Art in Melbourne #8 miscellaneous

Fitzroy off George Street
And with the thirty-first of the month, so ends this blog break when some miscellaneous street art photos from Fitzroy, Collingwood, Carlton and the CBD (the city).   I still have more street art photos to share.  So there might be more street art some time.  Meanwhile I will be back soon with some food posts.

Street Art in Melbourne #7 Brunswick miscellaneous

Laneway off Sydney Road near Union Street
Brunswick seems to have taken over from Fitzroy as the Melbourne suburb that is home to bohemian students and artists.  It offers a wealth of fascinating street art.  Some beautiful.  Some fun.  Some full of both beauty and humour.

Street Art in Melbourne #6 Aboriginal art for Sorry Day

Today is National Sorry Day.  This is the day to remember the history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia and the injustices they suffered.  It heralds the start of National Reconciliation Week which celebrates two important moments in Aboriginal history: the anniversary of the 1967 referendum when Aboriginal people were given the vote and the 1992 Mabo ruling that was a breakthrough in landrights for Aboriginal people.  To celebrate our national Indigenous culture I bring you some images of Aboriginal art and images from around Melbourne.

Update July 2014: I have added a photo from Fitzroy St that fitted with this group of photos.  It is by a (non-Indigenous) street artist called Adnate (who also did the Gertrude St painting).

Street Art in Melbourne #5 Brunswick alley

A covered alleyway connects the Albert Street supermarket and Sydney Road in Brunswick.  It does not seem to have a name.  I love how the street art cheers up this rather drab walkway.

Street Art in Melbourne #4 She dreamt of running away...

I have driven past this mural by Herakut often.  Many times I have wished to whip out my camera.  I had the chance last week (en route to The Cruelty Free Shop).  It is on Brunswick Street in North Fitzroy just opposite the Bowls Club.  It is such a bold and beautiful mural.  Great for entertaining Sylvia when the traffic is slow.

The text is inspirational: "So she dreamt of running away with monkeys. The most curious just tended to be the most courageous."  You can read more about it at Juxtapoz.  Or check out more of their poignant imagery at Herakut's website.

Street Art in Melbourne #3 Fitzroy

It seems that there is no name for this lane on the map.  It is between Cecil St, Brunswick St, Fitzroy St and Alexandra Parade.  The street art is a mixture of darkness and fun.  I loved seeing a few characters from my childhood.  I took the photos between bursts of rain so you might notice the overcast hues.

Street Art in Melbourne #2 Ann Street, East Brunswick

Ann Street is a tiny lane off Lygon Street in East Brunswick - between Victoria Street and Albert Street.  Much of the street art here is quite dark with bursts of sweetness and light.  I find this top photo just so sweet and moving.
