Mr Grumpy's Cafe, Mulgrave

We had lunch at Mr Grumpy's cafe in Mulgrave back in August with friends who live out that way.  I don't often eat out in that part of Melbourne.  It seems so far away.  I was impressed at Sylvia finding some interesting looking cafes.  And I was impressed with Mr Grumpy's.

It is a small cafe in a small row of shops just off a busy road.  I liked that it had artwork on the walls and red baseball caps for sale with the cheeky take on the MAGA slogan saying Make Mulgrave Great Again.  The menu has changed since we were there but on ubereats I can see there is lots of Quesadillas, filled Zataar bread as well as the usual egg dishes, smashed avo and toasties.

When it came to ordering the menu had a few interesting offerings.  Sylvia only wanted vegemite on toast as she could only face plain food that day.  I wanted warm food because it was a cold winter's day.  Not much of the hot food appealed but I liked the look of the crunchy noodle salad with warm falafels and hummus (top photo).  It was really nice and a different way to have falafels.  The crunchy noodle salad was a large serving of fried noodles, capsicum, grated carrot, cabbage and other crunchy vegetables with a nice dressing.  I was really full at the end of the meal.

Our friends both had the fancy scrambled eggs which were presented in a pretty rose shape.  Yav had roasted mushrooms on the side and her daughter had a lot of bacon with hers.  We all enjoyed our meals but were too full for any of the cakes and doughnuts.  It was really nice to catch up in a different part of town but we had to watch the clock as there was a time limit on our parking space.

  1. Is the owner grumpy? ha ha That is the most beautiful presentation of scrambled eggs I have ever seen!

  2. Sylvia's culinary adventurousness--in researching and finding interesting places to eat, as well as her cooking endeavors--is very impressive. That, combined with the artistic sensibility that informs each of the blog posts, makes GGG such an interesting, standout read (plus appreciating your social/political views). You make a great team, so 'Thanks!', both.
