I was delighted to read it today. You are so incredibly creative and fearless - I feel totally ignorant about the properties of nutritional yeast and almost never use it without a recipe. I love your idea to blend spinach into the sauce! I made a similar sauce last night (following a recipe from a cookbook, of course) for a pasta sauce with nooch, spinach, and fresh basil, It was delicious! Your crumbed tofu looks and sounds amazing as well. I hope some of your fearlessness and kitchen prowess rubs off on me!Scrumptioushttp://inmybox.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6742756814967464811.post-53917260059287295912010-06-05T04:25:59.072+10:002010-06-05T04:25:59.072+10:00Firstly I am sorry to read that you were unable to...Firstly I am sorry to read that you were unable to enjoy any of the vegetarian delights on offer at the Festival, but I thank you for sharing some photographs from there. I had not heard of the festival before.

Thank you for sharing your whinge too. I share your views that blogging is all about embracing a community of cooks who share lots of ideas and encouragement. It also breaks down barriers, for example cooks of all ages, backgrounds etc can happily be amongst a home without the exterior of judgement you see on TV cookshows. Its not about competition, but the community. I love how people who ordinariy would not converse with you, do so via blogging about food.

Its one of the reasons I love your blog, its not trying to have magazine food photographs, but homely style tasty and real food. I love it.Shaheenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03602971207085826708noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6742756814967464811.post-85227260158995986592010-05-24T01:36:04.375+10:002010-05-24T01:36:04.375+10:00I too am in search of a vegan cheeze sauce recipe ...I too am in search of a vegan cheeze sauce recipe with wow factor. I've made the vegan alfredo sauce from Vegan With A Vengeance, and it was okay but not great. And I've tried the one from Vegan Table (which is basically the same as The Real Food Daily one), which was also okay. As you said, I have to stop comparing them to dairy sauces. The Vegan Table/Real Food Daily one did have the fatty mouthfeel and savoury flavour, and I can see why people like it, but I couldn't quite get used to it. I look forward to seeing what you end up finding!eatme_delicioushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14657772782487330009noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6742756814967464811.post-61693645910622275222010-05-22T14:02:28.445+10:002010-05-22T14:02:28.445+10:00Thanks so much for this great entry, Johanna! You have tantalized my curiosity so now I must hit my vegan cookbooks to see what I can up with.

I absolutely agree with you on your comment about blogging and "embracing a community of cooks who share lots of ideas and encouragement." My sentiments exactly:)

From my perspective, each and every dish sounds delightful. I'm especially drawn to the Crumbed Tofu. I too use to prepare a wonderful Tofu marinade and I seem to forget how I did it. I'll have to try your way.

I'm so glad your wallet was returned. I have a feeling your week is going to get a whole lot better! Love Sylvia's bib, my grandson had the same one when he was a baby:) Have a wonderful day and thanks for sharing...~~louise~~https://www.blogger.com/profile/07335196139849995706noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6742756814967464811.post-39223001442733346682010-05-20T23:59:18.707+10:002010-05-20T23:59:18.707+10:00Thanks Sarah - I did enjoy the chewy tofu croutons...Thanks Sarah - I did enjoy the chewy tofu croutons with the soup even if the cheeze sauce was a challenge

thanks Lorraine - the froggy bib is great when sylvia insists on feeding herself baked beans - now if she could only learn to scoop the rest of the beans out of the bit and feed these to herself I could sit back with a good book :-)

Thanks Cindy - must try the tofu for two sauce as I enjoy their recipes - I am sure the week can only get better - at least I narrowly avoided a flat battery in the car this morning when a neighbour kindly let me know I had left the car light on last night

Thanks Lisa - it surely is the weather for soup on the stove

Thanks Hannah - some days with a baby around it feels like there is saliva crawling all over me - bodily fluids and babies go hand in hand!!! But enough of my B grade horror movie life - I am quite interested in nooch - quite like it sprinkled on soups etc but am determined to get to know it betterJohanna GGGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08594201473931487490noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6742756814967464811.post-29438266556763947062010-05-20T13:52:48.267+10:002010-05-20T13:52:48.267+10:00Oh dear heavens, my post-dentist wooziness made me...Oh dear heavens, my post-dentist wooziness made me read your first paragraph as "saliva crawling all over me" and I thought I had been transported to a B-grade horror movie, and was perhaps hallucinating from the local.

Thankfully, I quickly realised my mistake. I'm sorry you had to go through that with the lost wallet (I knwo how THAT feels!) and that days have been a bit less-than-stellar lately. If there's anything I can do, let me know :)

P.S. At least you've been brave enough to try cooking with nooch. I bought some and love it, but all I'm doing is sprinkling it over beans and veggies...Hannahhttp://wayfaringchocolate.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6742756814967464811.post-17886933868154834512010-05-20T13:48:35.377+10:002010-05-20T13:48:35.377+10:00my my you have been BUSY!!! I hope the worst of it is over, especially now that you have your wallet back.

I think what makes a good vegan cheesy sauce varies a lot from person to person - some of us want creaminess, others want that savoury flavour or that distinctive little tang of a sharp cheddar. My favourite is probably a cashew-based one from Tofu for Two.Cindyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07147906610629741961noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6742756814967464811.post-8070453255887457742010-05-20T10:37:39.557+10:002010-05-20T10:37:39.557+10:00Oh dear, sounds like a bit of a saga but worth pur...Oh dear, sounds like a bit of a saga but worth pursuing!
