I think we forget how concrete kids are and how their experience just 'is' and anything that deviates from it seems out of place and quite unsettling.I guess they don't have the ability to step outside of their known world until they are a little older. When I think back to some of the discussions I had with Miss GF (although not about vegetarianism), her unshakable position was much the same. As she has got older, she is more able to reflect on other perspectives. It will be interesting to see how Sylvia's views change as she develops xGluten Free Alchemisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14599801401879799252noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6742756814967464811.post-13810505061618229132018-02-14T18:36:34.605+11:002018-02-14T18:36:34.605+11:00I really enjoyed reading this thought provoking po...I really enjoyed reading this thought provoking post Johanna! I too was raised eating meat before choosing to forgo it, and have raised my children to be able to choose too since they also have a very carnivorous father. At 5 and 3 they are very tolerant and understanding of various diets, often if we go out they will make sure the restaurant has something for mama to eat before committing to it. One phrase that has worked very well for me is when people say, oh but you can’t eat such-and-such, I answer with, well I can but I choose not to. I would say currently my daughter is very anti-vegetables (but that could be a phase) whereas my son will eat his vegetables first before anything else on his plate. It will be interesting to see how they progress, but they will always have the choice and I will support their right to choose vehemently Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07790788516788938079noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6742756814967464811.post-32453285312978090652018-02-12T06:26:39.539+11:002018-02-12T06:26:39.539+11:00I was very interested in this post and appreciate ...I was very interested in this post and appreciate your reflections, and sharing some of what helped you with Sylvia. Her reaction is funny but it shows how important vegetarianism is to her and how much she values it, which is impressive in an 8-year-old. I am still unsure how Mini Bite will be raised but can't say she's 'vegetarian from birth' as whilst 90% of what I give her is vegan, she had turkey at Christmas and we've recently tried her on fish (neither of which she was very interested in mind you). As in your household, Mr Bite isn't vegetarian despite happily eating vegetarian most of the time so it will be interesting to see how we progress.Karihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15887621874869110597noreply@blogger.com
