So I do find it liberating when I have a good eggless recipe.

thanks Wendy - when I made pastry the other day I caught myself thinking I should make mistakes more because I understand how cakes work a bit more from all the mistakes I have made in the past - nothing like forgetting the sugar or the baking powder to understand how it changes the texture. Oh and I could probably have eaten the mixture raw but probably best to cook it

thanks Kathryn - I lived in a place with a new blazing hot oven just before this place - so I think I expect a bit much from our slow old oven sometimes. I was thinking it would help to know about the oven the owner of a recipe has cooked in because it makes such a difference

thanks Katie - I have a favourite wlanut fudge cake recipes that uses condensed milk so I expected any cake with it to be quite fudgy but now I know it isn't just the condensed milk that makes the favoured cake fudgy

Thanks Lysy - I lived in a place with an oven that needed a thermometer and got used to using one but am a bit lazy to use it now - probaly should. Thanks for the reminder - esp for when I bake for guests!Johanna GGGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08594201473931487490noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6742756814967464811.post-68889427211662428722008-06-04T06:08:00.000+10:002008-06-04T06:08:00.000+10:00I *so* often have this problem! I just train my guests not to expect beautiful looking desserts! I'm glad yours tasted so good despite its recalcitranceLysyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13415024852684873909noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6742756814967464811.post-80119255652456441872008-06-03T19:19:00.000+10:002008-06-03T19:19:00.000+10:00I've never used condensed milk in a cake before, b...I've never used condensed milk in a cake before, but i can imagine it makes it quite moist. Its so annoying when ckes look done but then go and sink on you. Glad you were able to rescue it.Katiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05008246307753272616noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6742756814967464811.post-19855463747183718532008-06-03T12:19:00.000+10:002008-06-03T12:19:00.000+10:00I've had many problems baking in my oven - because...I've had many problems baking in my oven - because it seems to cook at a temperature very close to the heart of the sun. So my baked goods burn on the outside, while remaining uncooked in the middle.

I've learnt to turn the oven down a good 10 degrees when baking.

But I'm still a baking novice, feeling my way with the chemistry involved. From my very limited knowledge I would think it needs cooking longer, on a lower temperature????Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6742756814967464811.post-16178453164844837132008-06-03T06:19:00.000+10:002008-06-03T06:19:00.000+10:00One of the problems I found with baking was that I...One of the problems I found with baking was that I was never quite sure exactly what I'd done wrong. It could have been any number of things!
Love the picture of the oozing chocolate cake. Uncooked though it is, it looks delicious!Wendyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07157804056370219398noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6742756814967464811.post-51240753626423686262008-06-03T06:08:00.000+10:002008-06-03T06:08:00.000+10:00Sorry it didn't work on the first try for you--tho...Sorry it didn't work on the first try for you--though great save by putting it back in the pan! (I've done that on more than one occasion with cookies). Funny, I've been baking eggless cakes for so long I can't imagine doing one with eggs now!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
