Even so, her cult status here represents a fraction of our very large population; that's a lot of people, but the Streep flick could never draw a crowd like the violence-porn genre that dominates our cinema.

As for Powell, I purchased her book as a Xmas gift, curiously poked my nose in it, landing on the lobster episode. I did not purchase a copy for myself.

Your slaw recipes sound fantastic, Johanna. You winged it very well. : } I'm adding cabbage to the top of my grocery list right now.Susanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14970742141705361136noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6742756814967464811.post-72334283395187995512009-11-03T08:57:24.880+11:002009-11-03T08:57:24.880+11:00Everything sounds so delicious! And sadly I can't have seitan. . . will try out the other one, though.

I started Julie and Julia about a month ago and just couldn't get into it. Maybe it's the attitude, as you suggest, but it just didn't "grab" me. I did enjoy the movie, but then again, Meryl Streep's Julia Child was exceptional!Rickihttp://dietdessertndogs.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6742756814967464811.post-24318034674792915692009-11-03T02:24:11.658+11:002009-11-03T02:24:11.658+11:00Mmm I love veggie sausages! Gluten is amazing how it clumps - these sausages held together much better than any sausages I have made before

Thanks Sabrina - welcome - glad you enjoy hearing some aussie kitchen sink drama :-)

Thanks Philippa - I would like to see the film too

Thanks Sarah - that is a really interesting perspective. I went into the book expecting her to be a food blogger as we know it but the book was really about her life and so was the blogging - much different to Mollie from Orangette's book, for example! I am quite keen to read Julia Child's memoir now too so hope to do that soon.

Thanks Ron Kat - I still have quite a few sausages in the fridge so I think they will have to go in the freezer - good to hear that will work

Thanks cindy - I love sausages and beans of any sort so must try them with lentils - had them in pasta last night which was very good. I think if I made them thinner I would have twice as many sausages but would probably freeze some as ron kat suggestedJohanna GGGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08594201473931487490noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6742756814967464811.post-19092295996822748852009-10-30T12:27:31.614+11:002009-10-30T12:27:31.614+11:00I think I would have likewise preferred our sausag...I think I would have likewise preferred our sausages a little thinner! I found them quite rich, and enjoyed chopping up some of the leftovers to mix into red wine lentils. I think she was less of a food blogger as we know it now, and more of a general-life-challenge blogger, although since her blog-book-movie saga she has become categorised as a food blogger because that is the current niche she would approach (albeit loosely). I think her writing style is one people seem to either love or hate (she has come by a pile of negative criticism, particularly for her language), and her documentation of the recipes and results was secondary to the experience of cooking and living.

The Julia Child thing is a crazy cult-like deal that we just don't get in Australia, isn't it?! FWIW, because of Julie's book I went out and read the biography of Julia Child in France, and I found her story more inspirational in itself. Her love of life and food really comes through in the writing, which gave me a little taste (no pun intended) of the awe and affection in which she is held in America.scarabeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10323623959931857487noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6742756814967464811.post-76612432474862671192009-10-30T08:57:26.523+11:002009-10-30T08:57:26.523+11:00both plates look so good! i really want to see the...both plates look so good! i really want to see the film, but i think i can give the book a missAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6742756814967464811.post-61206952780447814022009-10-30T08:45:59.290+11:002009-10-30T08:45:59.290+11:00Hi! Your sausages look fab and I always wondered how people made veggie sausages without them crumbling apart. Foil crackers, genius ;o)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
