Glad you liked the salad - the soup felt very wintery but the salad brightened our dinner.

Thanks Ricki - chestnuts seem more exotic because I never see them - but am seeing them a little more now I am looking. In recent years we have had people selling chestnuts roasted on street corners in the city in winter and I have wondered about buying a bag for cooking. (and I think I got through the spam filter with my last comment by using a different email address)

Thanks Monika - I have spent some time on the nigella website feeling quite overwhelmed by all the things I want to cook - have lots of recipes from their on my to do list!

Thanks Joanna - glad you are enjoying the blog - I am will definitely visit to see your chocolate cake - Nigella has such great chocolate cake recipes.

thanks Wendy - the velvety texture of this soup is very comforting. Am sure you will appreciate getting into some cooking at home all the more for the time away from your kitchen.Johanna GGGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08594201473931487490noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6742756814967464811.post-17499124634128560842008-02-21T21:12:00.000+11:002008-02-21T21:12:00.000+11:00Your cooking is making me homesick! I took the easy way out of this challenge and made a chocolate cake! ;-)

By the way, I've been admiring your blog and recipes for months now, I really enjoy visiting, thanks for all the inspiration!joannahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14952558113054391317noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6742756814967464811.post-83916323285230798042008-02-21T16:10:00.000+11:002008-02-21T16:10:00.000+11:00What an interesting combination - chestnuts and le...What an interesting combination - chestnuts and lentils! I jumped over to Nigella's website and "stole" a few recipes. Thanks for the recommendation!Monika Khttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08323280644122921851noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6742756814967464811.post-58670280869568566182008-02-21T01:45:00.000+11:002008-02-21T01:45:00.000+11:00I've never been a fan of Nigella's books for much ...I've never been a fan of Nigella's books for much the reason you describe. But this soup looks lovely. . . funny, we can get peeled chestnuts everywhere here (my sister buys them dried in bags, as a snack!). I admire your fortitude in peeling them yourself!! The salad also looks great--beautifully colorful.

I think I missed your last comment on my blog (they are all still being kicked into spam!). To answer your question about tahini, I think it's used more as a binder so that the granola ends up having little clusters stuck together, which makes it crunchier when you eat it. You could easily use any nut butter you like instead, I'd guess.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6742756814967464811.post-74853151607790868352008-02-21T01:28:00.000+11:002008-02-21T01:28:00.000+11:00With all of the cookbooks in my little library, I ...With all of the cookbooks in my little library, I do not have any of Nigella's. So thank you for the short review on them so I know which one to check out!
The soup does look quite comforting and I love the pattern you have created - soup art!
But you know what even looks better is your salad! I am a major salad lover! Looks very fresh and colorful - salad art!winedebhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16891313852429967357noreply@blogger.com
